Summer 2014

"Mexican food isn’t just about crunchy tacos. The four Mexican establishments in Saratoga Springs
(and one in Schuylerville) all offer menus that extend wide and deep in that wonderful cuisine from south of the
border. We set out to do a“tasting” at each and here’s
what we discovered.

First stop was Amigos Cantina (42 Ferry St., Schuylerville; 695-9595) where we found owner Rob Chrust
stationed by the door, greeting each person as they entered. The bar is small but clearly at center of conviviality
in the village; as folks entered they were greeted by those already there. The small room is a riot of color and
decorated with a really fascinating collection of Latin American artifacts. And the food is superb: my spinach
enchilada ($14.95) was just about perfect, with sauteed spinach in corn tortillas topped with cheese that was
toasted to that special place where it becomes even better."
